Life is Beautiful

It is a romantic war movie about a man named Guido. He works in his uncle's hotel and meets a lady named Dora. Eventually, they fall in love, and Dora runs away from the man with whom she was being forced to marry. They get married and have a son named Joshua. Later, Guido is found to be Jewish. He and Joshua are sent to a Nazi concentration camp. Dora is sent with them as she refuses to leave them. Guido convinces Joshua that the entire camp is a game, at the end of which the winner will receive a real tank. He protects his son, and asks him to hide so that he can find Dora. Guido is captured and killed by the guards. Joshua comes out of his hiding place the next day to find an empty camp. A U.S. tank arrives, and Joshua gets to ride in it until he reunites with his mother.

What we learned?
Guido leaves his son with an important lesson- Life is beautiful! Our imaginations are fueled and supported by the people we love. Live your life to the fullest and make the best of it.
Dead Poets Society

This is an American drama film set in the aristocratic Welton Academy. It is about an English teacher, John Keating, who inspires his students through his poetry to live the life they dream of. He inspires them to achieve what they want through his unorthodox way of teaching. He teaches them to see life with a new and fresh perspective as opposed to orthodox and conventional methods. The boys decide to start Dead Poets Society. He gets fired by the headmaster, Nolan, and the students stand up against him in Keating's defense. Seeing that his work has not gone in vain, he is touched by the gesture and happily leaves the school teary-eyed.

What we learned?
The movie teaches us to be self-reliant and free thinkers. It is our responsibility to stand up for ourselves in what we believe is right, and not do what others tell us to do. Try seeing things from a different perspective and walk the path towards your goal. Do not waste any opportunity.

This movie is about a man named Chuck Noland, who is an executive of FedEx. He and his long-time girlfriend, Kelly, want to get married, but his busy schedule doesn't allow them to. The Christmas of 1995 is interrupted by his another business trip to Malaysia. He gives her a ring and departs. The flight experiences some technical faults due to a violent storm, and his airplane crashes into the Pacific Ocean. He is stranded on an isolated island far away from home and girlfriend with no human contact at all. The frustration gets into him and he realizes that he has to find a way to get out of that island. It seems impossible to him. He struggles to survive on that lonely island. He finds a friend in a "volleyball" and names it Wilson. He has constant chats with Wilson. Wilson and a photo of Kelly keep his hopes alive. He makes numerous attempts to escape the island. After a span of four years, he sets out on a raft, and loses his friend, Wilson. He is depressed by the loss and sometime later, he is rescued by a passing cargo ship. When he gets back, he finds out that Kelly is already married, and they depart. He buys a new volleyball to return it to the sender in Canada.

What we learned?
A man learns to be strong in solitude. He comes to know of his strengths and weaknesses. You cannot really give up. It is too easy! You have to fight back because you never know what the tide will bring. There is plenty to see and do in this world. Conquer your fears and follow the voice of your heart.
Forrest Gump

This movie is based on a 1986 novel also named Forrest Gump, which was written by Winston Groom. This story is about a man named Forrest Gump from Alabama, who has a very low IQ, but smarter than normal people. It is about his journey of life and historic events in his life. His 'mama' teaches him about life and leaves him to choose his own fate. He joins the army in Vietnam, and finds new friends, Dan and Bubba. He wins medals, motivates and inspires people to jog while on a three-year marathon from coast to coast, enters the Shrimp business, creates ping-pong craze, meets Elvis Presley and the President many times, and reunites with his childhood love, Jenny.

What we learned?
The movie taught us that if we don't try out new things, we'll never know what we are capable of doing, and even if you are not great at it, it's okay! Life is more about the journey than destination. Talk to strangers because you never know who you'll meet in life. You should always demonstrate your love and affection for people you care about. Appreciate little things in life, and do not take anything or anyone for granted. And always remember, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get!"

Rocky series is saga of boxing, which had six parts. They were written by Sylvester Stallone. He directed most of the parts and starred in the movie himself as Rocky Balboa. The name is enough to get people pumped up. The first movie was released in the year 1976, later spawned five sequels. It is a rags-to-riches story of an underdog boxer from Philadelphia who makes it big in the boxing world. He fights all the heavyweight champions of the world and gains the title for himself through sheer determination. In Rocky I and II, he fought Apollo Creed. In Rocky III, he shoots to fame. When he decides to retire, the number one contender, James "Clubber" Lang, challenges him to a match openly, who is hungry for a win. The famous song from this movie "Eye of the tiger" is still a popular song to play during workouts. Listen to it and you will know what we mean! In Rocky IV, he is challenged by fighter from the USSR, Ivan Drago, and Tommy Gunn in Rocky V. Rocky Balboa was the sixth sequel, and Rocky is shown 16 years later with his son grown up and distant from him. However, Rocky discovers that he has found his fighting spirit and thinks of proving himself in the ring for one last time.

He then complains that God is doing a bad job as God. At that point, God appears in front of him and offers all his powers to him just to see if he can do a better job at running the universe. During this switch, Bruce learns lessons that changed his life.

What we learned?
Even we might be like Bruce in our lives and think that everybody is out to get us. Even if you are having a hard time figuring out things in your life, remember that God has reasons for everything that he does. It's okay if you don't know how to handle a situation, He has already figured out everything. God shows us many signs in life. We just need to keep a close watch and identify those signs. In the end, He will definitely turn our struggle into something beautiful.

It strongly shows of a dad's love for his child besides stressing the importance of donning qualities like persistence, self-belief, and determination.

What's left to life if we aren't pursuing our dreams, and not doing what we love? Make the most of your lives, and keep your dreams alive come what may! It's not about the failures, it is about how you surpass them and make yourself stronger at each and every point in your life. If you are feeling low and think that you've had enough of everything, then you should definitely watch this movie.
The Shawshank Redemption

He teaches him how to stay good despite the bad surroundings in prison. What he experiences after escaping from the prison is really a life-changing point in life.

What we learned?
We can swim through the ocean to reach the other end if we have that undying will power and hope, wherever we may be- in prison or a free bird.
October Sky

It is a biographical movie based on a true story of Homer Hickam, a coal miner's son. He was inspired by the launch of Sputnik I and decides to make rockets of his own. He is in awe seeing the satellite orbit across the sky in October, 1957. With the help of his two friends and science teacher, he starts working towards his new-found passion. People start thinking he is crazy. He enters the science fair and wins it after a series of trials and errors, and criticism from family and friends. He eventually succeeds in building a rocket that goes even higher than the Mount Everest.

What we learned?
The message that this movie is trying to give out is that you should never give up on your dreams, no matter how hard they seem to reach. You can achieve anything and everything if you work hard enough.
Fight Club

They form a fight club where he discovers himself through a self-employed salesman, Tyler Durden.


What we learned?
When you enter a passive and inactive state, a Tyler Durden will show up and teach you to dream bigger. After all, "It is only after you lose everything that we are free to do anything in life." There is a fighter in all of us. We need to take that fighter out. Live your life, and start doing things that you've always wanted to do.
