Looking to watch the best modern movies ever made. There’s no need to look further because this article lists out the best modern films that shouldn’t be missed.
Did You Know?
Jaws (1975) was the first movie to gross $100 million.
Movies have been continuously evolving since their early stages. It all started with theater, then came the silent black and white movies, then came color and finally came the advancement in the movie making techniques and the implementation of new and bold story lines and movies slowly came to be known as modern motion pictures.
In other words, movies that implement the advanced methods of film-making are known as modern films. These movies are worth watching and I am sure that you would love watching them no matter how big a fan you are of classics. These will in fact add up to your ‘favorite movie’ list.
* The movies mentioned in this article have been considered from the timeline of 1991 till 2012.
The best prison movie of all time, Shawshank Redemption is nothing short of a masterpiece. Although, it never won an Oscar, a Golden Globe or a BAFTA, the film has since its release developed a cult following and is listed on almost every great movies list. Shawshank Redemption is what every new prison movie wants to be because it is probably the only movie that has described the true reality of prison, the loop holes of the justice system and the common criminal in the eyes of law.
Considered a benchmark in special effects, The Matrix is one of the most amazing modern films. Though, a large number of people prefer it for the special effects, I like its amazing plot. The movie displays a bone-chilling truth of how everything that you see or feel is not real. This science-fiction extravaganza has everything that you need in a great movie. Great action, stars, direction, mind-blowing special effects and a story line that has inspired a range of sci-fi films.
One of the most pleasant and innovative films of all time, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is something that comes once in a generation. It is one of those love stories that says much more than an average romantic flick. Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet play ex-lovers who erase each other memories to start afresh. Due to its complex nature, it is a movie that demands your full attention. Watch Carrey and Winslet giving one of their best performances.
Another good movie to watch is ‘The Slumdog Millionaire’. This is a story about how a street child (Jamal) from the city of Mumbai, India, grew up to sit on the hot chair of ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’ and won. He is not educated but he is able to answer the questions from all the lessons that life has taught him since childhood. He had seen his mother being killed in front of his eyes by some rebellious groups, he and his brother have seen how young boys and girls of their age were tortured to become beggars and several other hardships. Laugh with him, when he jumps into a pit of human feces so that he can get the autograph of the great Bollywood star, Amitabh Bachchan, cry with him, when he fails to get his childhood love, Latika, and rejoice with him when he wins the money and is reunited with her. This movie won 10 Oscars. Jai Ho!
This is an epic science fiction movie and one of the most expensive movies ($237 million) ever made. The story is based in 2154 A.D. and it’s about how humans are trying to interact with the local tribe of Pandora, called the Na’vi. The humans are actually mining for a precious mineral which is called the unobtanium and they want to expand their mining field and for that they want the Na’vi people to evacuate their land. Watch the movie and see who wins. Do they agree to the human demands or do the humans fail? A great movie which dethroned Titanic (also made by Cameron) as highest grossing movie of all time.
