And when it comes to that, it is a well established fact that African-American comedians' names are generally at the top of the list. Be it slapstick, dry, or any other type of humor, black comedy is quite impressive. Not only stand up, many of them have enjoyed entertaining their audience through their hilarious comedy movies as we have enjoyed them. So let us have a look at some of their names and be glad that they have made us laugh so often.

A permanent member of the list of famous comedians who were black, is Flip Wilson. Though he did not light up the silver screen, he was a very popular stand up comedian on TV, and kept his audience in splits for ages with his cross dressing tactic!
Steve Harvey
Another great black comedian, Steve Harvey began his comedy career somewhere in the 1980s and continues to do so, with his The Steve Harvey Morning Show and also on the game show Family Feud. He is also an actor and a writer.
Richard Pryor
No list of comedians is complete if this great man is not in it. His knack of making people crack up, about even serious issues like racism, was appreciated by the audience and the comic fraternity alike. He has been an inspiration for many young and aspiring comedians.
Martin Lawrence
An acclaimed stand up comedian, he has quite a few movies in his kitty as well. Some of them are Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Bad Boys III, College Road Trip, Death at a Funeral, Big Momma's House 1 and 2, and others. His style has strong influences of Eddie Murphy and Bill Cosby.
Redd Foxx
One of the greatest comedians of all time, Redd Foxx was born with the name John Elroy Stanford. He was probably one of the first black, stand up comedians in America, and was a favorite among people because he spoke in a blatantly honest manner.
Eddie Murphy
His subjects and statements may seem to be anti-social at times, but they are generally taken with a pinch of salt by the audience. Starring in numerous comedy movies and being one of the best stand up comedians has made Eddie Murphy a household name.
